‘Hitched in Hamtown’: Forever Club launches trendy and timeless micro weddings

by R.Donald

A brand-new, yet palpably timeless wedding parlor has made its way to Hamtramck — the kind of place where you can plan to get married on a Wednesday and actually elope by the weekend.

Forever Club — available for micro weddings, elopements, photoshoots, baby showers and more — takes inspiration from the iconic, retro wedding chapels of Las Vegas, with checkered floors, ornate gold light fixtures and a velvet painting of Elvis Presley right above where couples tie the knot.

“We had this idea to find a space where there’s something fun, vibey, affordable in the wedding industry,” says Grace Moses, 36, who officially launched the parlor with her husband, Ray, in December 2025. “It’s either kind of big and expensive or it’s the courthouse, which is not that fun.”

The personal touches throughout the space reflect that philosophy. Ray, 50, points to the wall and says, “There’s a picture of my grandma, there’s a picture of (Grace’s) grandparents there. There’s my grandparents dancing at a wedding over there, and it fits the vibe.”

As veterans in the hospitality industry, previously owning Stache International in Eastern Market and then eventually expanding into the food truck scene, both Grace and Ray always toyed with the idea of opening a wedding venue with a funky twist. The idea also came out of their own struggles planning a wedding, which “felt like a full-time job” in Detroit over 10 years ago.

“A wedding chapel in and of itself is not necessarily new, but I think there isn’t anything with this kind of retro aesthetic,” Grace says, who curated the space with thrifted items and many pieces from their own home. “I think that really plays into what people are looking for. It’s Instagrammable, right? Like, it looks great on the camera. It’s everything people kind of want.”

It’s completely customizable to any event — whether it be legally binding weddings, commitment ceremonies, vow renewals or whatever else that calls for commemorating. Packages range from $340 to $1,425, with varying amounts of guest options and time-slots, in addition to bubbly toast add-ons, real floral bouquets, and digital Super 8-inspired mini videos.

“We’ve had a few people that have come through here just being like, okay, so when we book online and it’s $425, like then what?,” Grace says. “We’re like, then it’s $425, and you’re ready to get married. There’s no hidden this or that, or an unexpected cost here.”

The customization doesn’t end there. Those celebrating their big day may select “wedding weenies” from their hot dog and coney cart, coined as “Little Treat.” And if they want keepsakes to take home, they may select the celebration box that includes a tote bag, a “Hitched in Hamtown” sticker, a Forever Club matchbook and chocolates from Bon Bon Bon, which started inside the same building on Evaline Street.

“When we saw that this place was available, it’s actually the original home of Bon Bon Bon, and then it was a bakery and a florist, so we’re like, it feels kind of like a perfect history for something that then becomes a wedding chapel,” Grace says.

With Ray being born and raised in Detroit and Grace hailing from Chelsea, the couple — who currently reside in Oak Park — felt Hamtramck was the ideal location for their vision.

“It’s just a really fun, interesting, vibrant community,” Grace says. “There’s a lot of great arts and culture, so I think it fits Hamtramck as a neighborhood — it’s a little offbeat.”

They started the process in July 2025, signed their lease in August, launched in December and have ordained a handful of weddings since, with bookings continuously filling up the calendar.

“We had a wedding this week where they reached out on Wednesday and said, ‘We need to get married Saturday,’ and they were here, and we did it,” Ray says.

The couple has found the work deeply rewarding. After one couple recently finished their ceremony, Ray looked at Grace and remarked, “I miss them. We had so much fun with them.”

“That positivity and rewarding feeling of being able to be here to provide that moment — that’s a huge draw for us,” he says. “We are open to whatever people want to do with their love, whatever that looks like.”

“A small space for big memories” adorns the front window of the building, with a neon sign above it that reads “Parlor in use” for those savoring a special moment.

“Maybe it’s like a post-COVID thing, I don’t know, but I think just something so intentional feels on time right now,” Grace says. “ Like you don’t want your uncle’s neighbor at your wedding — I don’t care that that person is there and I don’t want to pay for their steak … But if it’s you and 15 other people that are really, truly and intentionally your close-knit people, I think that’s something really special.”
