The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the most prestigious events in the motoring calendar, and manufacturers come from all over the world to unveil their new cars and send them up the iconic hill climb.
This year, there’s an eclectic mix of different models on the stands, ranging from small electric city runarounds to a 1,600hp Chinese supercar. Senior reviews writer Mario Christou is at the festival, camera in hand, and these are some of the highlights he’s captured so far.

1. Alpine A110 FUTURE
This is the Alpine A110 FUTURE, and it’s a prototype of the new, all-electric A110 sports car. The body is basically the same as the current A110, but all the interesting changes are going on under the skin.
It has a clever battery pack which is split across the front and rear, improving weight distribution and making the car just as low to the ground as the current one. It’s also rear-wheel drive with two electric motors on the back axle. A full reveal of the production electric A110 is expected next year.
2. Audi Nuvolari
Just as you thought the Audi R8 was gone for good, there’s now a successor. The Audi Nuvolari was revealed a few weeks ago, but now it’s making a public appearance at Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Under the skin, it uses the same 4.0-litre hybrid V8 engine as the Lamborghini Temerario. It has 80hp more than the Lambo though, with 1,000hp on tap to push it from 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds. Just 499 Nuvolaris will ever be made, and they’ll cost £500,000 each.
3. BMW M Concept Neue Klasse
This is the new BMW M3 – sort of. It’s a concept car which gives us a very good idea of what the next M3 will look like, and if the real thing looks even a tenth as cool as this then it’ll be a real head-turner.
It’s been known for a while that the BMW M3 is going electric, and it’ll have one electric motor for each wheel. Power is expected to sit around the 800hp mark, and BMW will also be making a petrol version with a heavily-tweaked version of the 3.0-litre straight-six engine you get in the current car.
4. BYD Dolphin G
Coming back down to earth for a second, this is the BYD Dolphin G. It’s an interesting thing, because it’s the same size as something like a Renault Clio but has a plug-in hybrid engine – making it the smallest car on sale in the UK with that technology.
Timon Werner-Pachmayr, senior online test editor for Carwow Germany, has driven the Dolphin G, and he was impressed by its 69mpg efficiency figure, high-tech cabin and roomy back seats. Prices start from £23,990, and first deliveries will begin in September.
5. Denza Bao 5
This imposing-looking thing is the Denza Bao 5, and it’s a luxurious off-roader which is aimed squarely at the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Class. Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid system, pushing out 544hp and managing 56 miles of electric-only range.
Order books will open in the summer, and prices will start from £69,500. That’s around £5,000 more than an entry-level Land Rover Defender, and we’ll be driving it soon to find out if it’s worth paying the extra.
6. Denza Z
Another one from Denza, and it’s the polar opposite to the Bao 5. The new Denza Z is an electric supercar with performance to rival the V12 Lamborghini Revuelto. It has three electric motors – two on the rear axle and one on the front – putting out a combined 1,604hp.
That’s almost 600hp more than the Revuelto, and it’s quicker from 0-62mph by over half a second. The Racing model will complete the sprint in just under 2.0 seconds. There’s also a convertible Spider version on offer, and prices start from £143,000 for the entry-level coupe, rising to £173,000 for the Racing.
7. McLaren 788HS
This is the McLaren 788HS, and it’s the final evolution of the epic 720 S supercar. The 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine has, surprise, 788hp – 68hp more than the 720 S, and 0-62mph takes 2.8 seconds.
The 788HS also has a wild new aero kit on it, including a massive rear wing, new front bumper and a roof scoop to funnel air into the engine. Only 200 of these cars will ever be made, with that number split evenly across coupe and convertible models, and each one will be built to the owner’s unique specifications. No two will be the same.
8. MG GO
The juxtaposition between cars at Goodwood is enough to give you whiplash, because following on from an ultra-rare supercar we have an electric hatchback which will go on sale in 2027. The MG GO is a concept car which previews a future alternative to the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID Polo.
There aren’t many technical details on offer just yet, but we expect this car to share parts with the MG4 Urban. This means it could use a 43kWh battery with around 200 miles of range, and you can expect it to cost less than £25,000 as well.
9. Mercedes-AMG CLA 45
This is the new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, and it’s the first fully electric car to wear the AMG badge since the limited-run SLS Electric Drive in 2013. It has three electric motors producing a combined 680hp, and 0-60mph takes just 3.0 seconds.
That’s not only a full second quicker than the old CLA 45, it’s not far off some supercars such as the McLaren 788 HS we talked about above. It’ll be available as both a saloon and an estate car, and we expect prices to start from around £70,000.
10. Toyota GR GT
The Toyota GR GT is making its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed following its reveal earlier this year. As more manufacturers are moving towards electric sports cars, Toyota has decided to develop an all-new V8 engine for this coupe.
It’ll be paired to a hybrid system, and Toyota has confirmed that it’s aiming for at least 650hp and a 200mph top speed. The other thing to note is that this isn’t actually the Toyota GR GT. Toyota is launching GR as its own standalone performance brand, so it’ll just be called the GR GT when it’s launched in 2027.
11. Yangwang U9 Xtreme
Last, but by no means least, we have the fastest car in the world. The Yangwang U9 achieved an astonishing 308mph – and before you keyboard warriors go ranting about the Koenigsegg Jesko’s 310mph top speed, it’s never actually hit that figure in the real world.
The U9 Xtreme has four electric motors, producing a combined 3,000hp and launching the car from 0-60mph in less than two seconds. Just 30 of these cars will ever be available to buy, and prices will start from north of £200,000.
