4 New Tata Electric Cars Expected Before 2028

by R.Donald

Tata Motors is getting ready to expand its electric vehicle lineup with several new models over the next few years. The company already has one of the biggest EV portfolios in India, with models like the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV and the recently launched Sierra EV.

Now, Tata is expected to bring more premium and family-focused electric vehicles to the market. Here’s a look at four new Tata EVs that could arrive before 2028.

1. Tata Avinya

The Tata Avinya is expected to be the brand’s flagship electric vehicle. First shown as a concept, the production version has gone through several changes during development. Reports suggest the car will now use the Chery-JLR Freelander EV platform instead of the previously planned JLR EMA-based architecture.

Production is expected to begin around the middle of 2027. Tata Motors is also planning a separate retail network for the Avinya range. The first production model is expected to be a sportback, with more body styles likely to follow later.

2. Tata Safari EV

The Safari EV is expected to join Tata’s electric SUV lineup within the next 12 to 18 months. The three-row SUV is likely to share its platform, battery pack and electric motors with the Harrier EV. While the overall design is expected to remain similar to the regular Safari, it will get an all-electric powertrain.

3. Tata Electric MPV

Tata Motors is also believed to be working on a new seven-seat electric MPV. The company has not officially confirmed the project yet, but reports suggest it is evaluating the model as demand for practical family EVs continues to grow. If approved, the electric MPV could compete with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YMC, its Toyota-based sibling and the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

4. More Premium Tata EVs

Tata Motors has also hinted at more electric models for the future. In its latest investor presentation, the company showed two new EV silhouettes without revealing their names or specifications. One of these is expected to become another member of the Avinya family, while the other could be developed as either an SUV or a people mover.
