Harry and Meghan return to Britain via private jet

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew with their children and dogs from California to Birmingham aboard a chartered Bombardier jet. The 10-hour transatlantic trip cost roughly $120,000. They plan to settle in the UK for an extended stay, though not as working royals.

The family departed Van Nuys Airport at 6:01 PM on August 25, 2026, landing in Birmingham 10 hours later. The flight was operated by Planet Nine Private Air using a Bombardier Global Express XRS, configured for 13-14 passengers with sleeping quarters and Wi-Fi. Security, comfort, and pet accommodations reportedly influenced the choice over commercial travel.

This marks their first extended UK residence since relocating to California six years ago. While their Montecito home remains, they will not occupy royal estates or resume official duties. The move signals a new phase for the family, separate from royal obligations but still under public scrutiny.

Why it matters

Travelers with children, pets, and security needs may find private jets more practical than commercial first class despite higher costs. The Sussexes’ choice highlights how high-net-worth families prioritize comfort and logistics over public perception or budget constraints.
