Best moisturisers for mature skin 2026, tested by a beauty writer

by R.Donald

As skin gets older, issues like dryness, flaking, redness and uneven pigmentation become more common, particularly in the years leading up to and following menopause. While a standard moisturiser may help, choosing a formula designed specifically for mature skin can offer deeper hydration and more targeted nourishment.

As a beauty writer in my 50s, I’ve tried dozens of products claiming to do just that. After more than two decades in the beauty industry, I’ve seen and tested it all, from eye creams for mature skin to anti-ageing night creams.

Many products promise results but fail to deliver, however my testing uncovered a handful of moisturisers for mature skin that genuinely perform as advertised. I have dehydrated skin myself, and during testing I noticed a marked difference – improved hydration, a healthier glow and skin that looked fuller, smoother and more balanced to name just a few.

That said, skin concerns vary from person to person. What suits oily skin won’t necessarily work for sensitive skin, and a formula designed to soften fine lines may not be ideal for evening out skin tone. With prices often on the higher side, I trialled a broad selection of creams, ranging from £12 to £90, to reflect different budgets and needs.

Whether you’re looking to address redness and pigmentation, the appearance of age spots, or to boost elasticity and achieve a fresh-faced glow, these moisturisers aced my tests. They are all effective antidotes for anyone tackling midlife skin changes. Keep reading to see which moisturisers made it onto my list.
