  • Xiaomi EV launched a cheaper YU7 standard version and the high-performance YU7 GT in May to stimulate market demand.
  • Xiaomi EV delivered 36,702 vehicles in April, with the new-generation SU7 sedan contributing over 70% of the share.

Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) electric vehicle (EV) unit continued to deliver over 30,000 vehicles in May, maintaining a solid sales momentum in the highly competitive Chinese market.

The Beijing-based tech giant shared the approximate figure on the social media platform Weibo on Monday.

In line with its usual practice, Xiaomi EV did not provide a specific figure. Detailed data for May is expected to be available later this month in the China Passenger Car Association’s (CPCA) monthly report.

Prior to this, Xiaomi EV delivered a total of 36,702 vehicles in April. The new-generation SU7 sedan contributed more than 70% of the share, while the YU7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) accounted for the remaining sales proportion.

To further boost sales and expand market share, Xiaomi adopted an aggressive product expansion strategy in late May.

The company launched a new base model of the YU7 SUV on May 21 at a lower starting price of 233,500 yuan ($34,440). Deliveries of the new variant began on May 26.

This new base model is designed to significantly lower the barrier to purchase. Xiaomi hopes to use this to further challenge Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y in the world’s largest EV market.

At the same time, Xiaomi is also making a push into the higher-premium segment. The company launched the highly anticipated high-performance SUV model, the YU7 GT, on May 21.

The pure electric SUV, which starts at 389,900 yuan and features a 990 hp dual-motor system, began deliveries on May 29.

Strong delivery performance is crucial to Xiaomi’s automotive business. The company’s innovative business, which includes EVs and AI, recorded an operating loss of 3.1 billion yuan in the first quarter.

This financial setback was largely attributed to the drag from the traditional Chinese New Year holiday. In addition, the short-term impact of the transition period for the revamped SU7 also temporarily suppressed the unit’s profitability.

With an enriched product lineup and improved delivery capabilities, Xiaomi is striving to achieve its ambitious annual target.

The company has set its full-year vehicle delivery target for 2026 at 550,000 units, representing an increase of about 34% from roughly 410,000 units in 2025.

In the January-April period, Xiaomi EV delivered 117,558 vehicles, up 12.55% year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
