An Australian jewellery business has confirmed a cyber incident after hackers claimed they accessed the company’s systems and stole more than half a terabyte of data.
Gregory Jewellers specialises in fine jewellery, watches, and accessories, and is based in Sydney’s CBD. Speaking with Cyber Daily, a spokesperson confirmed that the company was listed on a ‘dark web’ site belonging to the Kairos ransomware gang.
The website alleged the hackers had taken 574 gigabytes of data from the business. The listing has since been removed from the leak site, and the sample is no longer accessible.
The group previously shared a sample of data, which supposedly included personal customer information and internal investigation documents, among other items. A spokesperson noted that Gregory Jewellers identified a cyber incident involving unauthorised access to part of its IT systems.
“We engaged independent experts to assist with an investigation and provide advice. We are operating as usual, while investigations into the type and extent of data impacted are ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
“Gregory Jewellers has reported the incident to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and the Australian Cyber Security Centre. We have communicated with staff and clients as appropriate about the incident.”
Kairos emerged in November 2024 and has since claimed responsibility for more than 80 cyberattacks. The group, active on Russian-language hacking forums, recently targeted NSW-based Strata Republic, alleging it stole 441GB of data, including financial records, tax documents, and employee identification files.
