Key points:
• Shark and Dyson launched new cooling devices ahead of a summer of heatwaves in the UK.
• The Shark ChillPill features three cooling modes: fan, dry touch mist, and a cooling plate.
• Dyson’s HushJet Mini Cool fan quickly sold out after its launch, but can be picked up at Argos or Amazon.
With another heatwave due to hit the UK next week, we’re desperately seeking clever ways to stay cool in record-breaking temperatures. From clammy commutes to sweaty outdoor workouts, keeping your body temperature down is essential in the heat.
Luckily, two of our favourite home and beauty brands are coming to the rescue with new, innovative cooling gadgets. Earlier this year, Shark released the ChillPill – a 3-in-1 fan and cooling system.
The ChillPill features a bladeless fan with 10 speeds, dry touch mist, and an InstaChill cooling plate inspired by cryotherapy. Altogether, the device helps cool the body rather than just circulating air.
So how does it work exactly? Shark developed interchangeable attachments to deliver three cooling methods. Fill the reservoir with water for up to 10 minutes of dry touch mist that quickly evaporates, leaving the skin refreshed (but not wet). Or attach the cooling plate for cryo-inspired direct-contact that lowers skin temperature by up to nine degrees in seconds. The rechargeable battery delivers up to 11 hours of cooling at the lowest speed and recharges in 3.5 hours.
Weighing just 350 grams, the ChillPill is compact and designed to be taken on the go. You can wear the device using the crossbody strap, clip it to your bag, or prop it up in tabletop mode. We also love that the ChillPill is available in a range of fun colours, including Iced Latte, Glacier, Dragonfruit, and Matcha. Shop additional accessories, such as the wristlet strap, crossbody strap, bag clip, and bike/stroller clamp, either direct from Shark or find the wristlet and crossbody strap on Amazon.
Another notable cooling innovation launched recently: the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool fan. The brand’s first portable handheld fan sold out quickly on the Dyson site, but you can pick it in the blush colour up at Argos or Amazon. (Meanwhile we’re keeping an eye out for a full restock on the super high-speed fan.) It can be used handheld, worn hands-free, or placed on a desk, and can reach airflow speeds up to 55 mph. Priced at just under £100, the HushJet Mini Cool is one of the most affordable products Dyson makes, so our editors are excited to get our hands on it.
