Holmes said: “I had my suspicions it was Rockstar when I was told it was a big client from Edinburgh, because that’s where Rockstar North is. Once I found out it was Rockstar Games, I was like, it’s got to be Grand Theft Auto.”
He bought the Crown Victoria from Warminster Township Police Department in Pennsylvania and launched Rent-A-Vic, hiring it out for media work to fund its upkeep.
“I have this car because I love it to bits,” he said. “I mean, I’ve always wanted one.
“I’ve had silly offers from people wanting to buy it off me. I’ve just turned them all down.”
In early 2021, almost a year before GTA 6 was officially announced, Holmes was invited to Millbrook where teams photographed the car and placed microphones around it to capture sounds such as doors opening and closing.
A stunt driver also drove it around the site to record its engine.
