It all began with a lake.
When Alice Price told Ricky Verma she had always imagined getting engaged at Euridge Manor in the Cotswolds because its romantic gardens and water body reminded her of Lake Como, he had a different idea altogether. “I thought, what’s the point of proposing somewhere that feels like Italy when we could just go to Italy?” he says.
For Alice’s birthday in May 2025, Ricky planned a surprise trip, revealing each leg of the journey through a series of handwritten letters she could only open along the way. The final stop was Lake Como itself, where Villa Monastero became the setting for the proposal. A private boat awaited as the sun began to set, and with the lake almost entirely to themselves, he got down on one knee while a hidden photographer captured the moment. “I don’t think she was expecting it at all,” he laughs.
The couple’s story had begun two years earlier on Hinge. Living two hours apart, Alice in Wales and Ricky in Birmingham, they spent weeks getting to know one another over nightly FaceTime calls before finally meeting in person. “After about a month, I drove over to Wales, picked her up and we went on our first date,” Ricky recalls. Today, the pair call Birmingham home.
That proposal went on to shape the rest of their wedding journey. They returned to Euridge Manor for an intimate civil ceremony with their closest family before setting off for Udaipur, where they exchanged vows overlooking Lake Pichola in a celebration attended by no one but themselves. “We wanted the wedding to only be about us,” says Ricky. “I’ve never wanted too many people there,” Alice adds. Together, they reimagined the Indian wedding as an elopement.
