Skincare lovers have sparked a debate over a hugely popular skincare device, after claiming the facial cleansing tool has caused nerve inflammation on their faces.

While the Medicube Booster Pro, which retails for $230, is wildly popular – with many social media users declaring it’s transformed their skin – some content creators have claimed it’s caused temporary paralysis in their faces.

As per the website, the device combines the latest skincare technology – Electroporation, Microcurrent, EMS, Electric needles, LED and Sonic vibration – and improves skincare product absorption, enhanced radiance, elasticity care, facial contouring and pore care.

But one TikTok user, who posts under the username Critically Caucasian, said after only a few days of using the Korean skincare brand’s device, it caused so much nerve inflammation that her eye started drooping, her pupil was dilated and she was having a hard time seeing.

‘There’s pressure on my face. The nurse at urgent care thought I was having an aneurysm,’ she shared in a video. ‘Turns out it’s inflammation from this device.’

The beauty enthusiast said she now has to go to a specialist to make sure there is no permanent damage, but noted it did not state that nerve damage was a possibility anywhere on the box.

‘Nowhere does it say it will irritate a nerve,’ she continued. ‘I’m not risking permanent damage over skincare.’

Medicube has vehemently denied the claims.

Creator Critically Caucasian claimed that she followed the instructions perfectly. 

‘The reason I wasn’t concerned about the irritation was because everything on the website said this was completely normal, to have a bit of pain around the teeth and the eyes and forehead.

‘Nowhere did it state that it could inflame a nerve,’ she said furiously. ‘But it does happen, it can happen, please be careful.’

And she was not the only one – with other users chiming in with their own stories.

One beauty lover, who goes by Amina, shared a warning with her followers, after claiming she developed Bell’s palsy after using the device.

‘I am paralyzed on this side of my face,’ the UK-based content creator claimed. 

She explained the paralysis is only temporary, but believes her condition was caused by her use of the Medicube device. 

Bell’s palsy is a temporary facial paralysis that occurs when the facial nerve is damaged.

‘Tons of people are buying it and this is the result of two days of using it,’ she tearfully said.

In a statement posted to their Instagram page, Medicube called the viral TIkTok video’s ‘misleading’

Amina said she started developing the paralysis within 12 to 24 hours of using the product, although acknowledged she doesn’t know for sure the device caused the issue.

‘I think we should be extremely careful with the things that we are blindly following on f**king TikTok,’ she urged.

According to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Jodi Logerfo, there has been a surge in skin devices using an electrical charge.

‘Of course, because they are electric-based devices we wonder about safety,’ she told the DailyMail.com.

‘The company that sells the device, a few clinical studies and users do indicate that these devices are safe when used as directed and the way they are intended. However, they may not be as safe as we think,’ she warned.

She advised everyone use products that have been FDA approved and purchased from a reliable company.

‘I think any electrically-charged skin device could potentially carry the risk of an adverse event, including any event involving the nervous system,’ she continued.

‘I also believe that “nerve damage/inflammation” etc, be it temporary or permanent, could occur if you are improperly using the device or overdoing it,’ Dr. Logerfo explained.

In a statement posted to their Instagram page, Medicube called the viral TIkTok video’s ‘misleading.’

‘We would like to clarify that the Booster Pro device does not cause Bell’s Palsy,’ the statement read.

‘Recently, a viral video on TikTok has been spreading false information claiming that the Booster Pro device caused nerve damage.

‘This misinformation has been spreading uncontrollably, not only affecting our customers but also misleading new individuals who are unfamiliar with our brand, Medicube. 

‘This false narrative is creating fear that the use of the device could lead to health problems, and we are deeply concerned about the impacts on our customers, partners, and the overall perception of our products,’ the statement concluded. 

Many users love the device, claiming it’s changed their skin and complexion. 

‘The medicube changed my life! Such an upgrade for my skincare routine,’ one happy user wrote on a TikTok video.

‘Seriously such a cool skincare tool that really makes a difference in my routine!’ agreed another.
