Cases of Eye Fatigue and Minus Increase Due to Too Long Playing Gadgets

GORONTALO – The eye clinic at the Gorontalo Provincial General Hospital (RSUD) Dr. Hasri Ainun Habibie has noted an increase in cases of vision disorders in recent years.

Complaints such as tired, dry eyes, and farsightedness are now increasingly common, especially those related to the use of digital devices.

Eye specialist at the RSUD, dr. Yusnidah Z. Ahmad, Sp.M, explained that this trend is in line with the increasing intensity of the use of gadgets in the community. In addition to cataract cases which still dominate, eye disorders due to digital screen exposure are now a complaint that is quite prominent.

“The most common complaints include tired, dry, watery eyes, and increased myopia or minus eyes due to long-term use of gadgets,” he said.

He added that the habit of staring at the screen at close range continuously without pause can worsen eye conditions. If it is not balanced with enough rest time, the risk of vision disorders will be greater.

“This condition can be experienced by anyone, especially those who have high intensity in using mobile phones, computers, and laptops,” he said.

For this reason, the public is urged to start regulating the duration of using digital devices and giving time to rest for the eyes. This simple step is considered important to maintain eye health.

In addition, he also reminded that it was necessary to immediately check the eyes to the health facility if there were complaints, so that the disorder could be handled earlier and not develop into something more serious.
