Courtney Leidy’s Silk Cord Pendants Center Unexpected Pairings

by R.Donald

Courtney Leidy has been creating unexpected pairings for her silk cord pendants since the collection first debuted in October 2024.

For our Piece of the Week, we’re looking at a new variation that she debuted in April, which pairs purple and green hues through checkerboard-cut amethyst and ivy green silk cord.

The pendant also features accents of 18-karat yellow gold along the braided cord and for the hardware.

Leidy, the founder and designer of her namesake brand, chooses the stones she works with based on their character and creates designs where the value is seen through the composition rather than the price of the materials.

Our Piece of the Week’s colorway was created through collaboration between Leidy and a client.

“The silk cord creates an opportunity for collaboration, allowing clients to choose a color that feels personal to them. Those decisions often lead to unexpected pairings that challenge my own instincts and continually expand the collection,” said Leidy.

She added that she chose silk for these pendants because she wanted to make pieces that felt easy and natural to live with.

“Gold and stone already carry weight and permanence, so introducing something softer created a balance that felt more complete. The cord also opens up an entirely different way of thinking about color,” said Leidy.

“Rather than focusing only on the gemstone, I’m interested in the relationship between the stone and the silk – how the two colors build on one another, create tension, or quietly complement each other.”

Leidy is not alone, as there has been an increase in designers who have been working with alternative materials since the price of gold has been increasing.

The silk cord pendants have become a signature silhouette for Leidy’s brand and stand as a bridge, pairing high jewelry and everyday wear through the elevated yet relaxed aesthetic of the design.

The amethyst and ivy green silk cord pendant retails for $5,580.
