As Sandringham on Wednesday, Her Majesty was spotted wearing a delicate gold chain bracelet with a small crucifix charm. The Queen rarely seems to take off this bracelet, which was reportedly the only piece from her personal collection that she wore at the Coronation in 2023, a sure sign of just how important the piece is to Her Majesty, who has also worn the crucifix on such milestone occasions as her state visit to The Vatican since debuting the piece around 2010.
Queen Camilla also wore a thin gold chain bracelet adorned with an ‘evil eye’ charm, used in many cultures to ward off bad luck and protect the wearer from jealous influences. The Queen has at least two bracelets with the symbol, which is often worn by Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex owns a 14-carat Hamsa Ring from Kimset by Milka, which she often selects from her jewellery box, as well as her own evil eye bracelet from Alemdara.
The Queen appears to take great care with her jewellery choices, often wearing pieces that have poignant links to her family, royal or otherwise. On Monday, she wore a Van Cleef & Arpels brooch designed to look like Lily of the Valley, known to be Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite flower.
The late monarch revealed the news in 2020, when she worked with the RHS on the Virtual Chelsea Flower Show during the Covid lockdown. An Instagram post released to the Royal Family account showed two images of lily of the valley growing in the Buckingham Palace gardens, as well as two images of the Queen holding the flowers – as part of her Coronation bouquet, and when she received a bunch from a member of the public.
