Samsung has introduced a new foldable display design called Flex Titanium. The main task of this development is to minimize the visibility of the crease on the screen without increasing the thickness of the device’s case. The technology is designed for the next generation of high-end Galaxy smartphones.
Technology characteristics
Flex Titanium is based on the introduction of titanium alloy components directly into the structure of the screen. The developers integrated two key elements:
- Titanium alloy film: located directly under the OLED panel. Its mechanical rigidity is 20 times higher than that of a conventional polymer, and its thickness is comparable to a third of the diameter of a human hair.
- Titanium support plate: is under the film and has microscopic holes in the bend area. This allows the plate to bend more efficiently, providing a tight fit to the module and uniform load distribution when the device is deployed.
Features of updated displays
In addition to integrating titanium, Samsung has improved the architecture of the panel itself. A new generation of organic OLED materials was used and an architecture with increased resolution was implemented. Despite the refusal to provide exact data, the manufacturer guarantees a significant improvement in the energy efficiency of the screen.
Release date and first devices
Although the official list of devices has not been approved, experts expect the debut of the technology in the Galaxy Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra. The premiere will take place on July 22 at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where all the details will be revealed, including prices and final specifications of the new products.
