  • We have tested 37 smartphone-friendly travel gadgets over eight months, narrowing them down to seven standout picks ranging from phone stands and cases to portable storage and travel organisers, including products such as the Astropad Bookcase, SanDisk Creator Phone SSD (1TB), MOFT Snap-on Phone Stand & Wallet MOVAS and Bellroy Venture Phone Pocket.
  • The focus of our selection is solving real travel problems, from storage and battery limits to hands-free viewing and everyday organisation.

When I’m not covering travel, I’m buying every piece of new tech that catches my eye and pretending I’m a quality assurance tester who’s getting paid for it. This used to be a staple line in my author bios, and one I often think about bringing back. Travel gadgets, especially those that pair with your smartphone, have been an enduring obsession ever since I picked up a Mophie Space Pack dupe for my iPhone 6. It is indeed my second love. And much like when a reporter’s hunch about a minor detail proves right, discovering a piece of gear that transforms your smartphone into something genuinely useful on the road can feel like magic.

To cut through the overwhelming, endless churn of new gear, upgrades and AI promises, I tested 37 smartphone accessories from the biggest names in the space over the past eight months, narrowing them down to the best options for a range of travel needs.

The best smartphone-friendly travel accessories

Bookcase by Astropad

Slim e-readers with paper-like screens and weeks-long battery life have their place, but sometimes you just want to make do with the phone already in your hand. For anyone trying to read more without carrying extra kit, Astropad’s Bookcase offers a middle ground, or I would say, more like a workaround. It’s essentially a magnetic shell with chunky side grips that turns your phone into something closer to a paperback in both shape and feel. Clip it on, and it’s easier to hold for longer stretches, whether you’re on a commute or halfway through a chapter on a long-haul flight. It won’t give you the soft, glare-free display or marathon battery life of a dedicated device, but it does make reading on your phone feel a little more intentional.

Available in a single dark blue finish, the USD 29.99 case, currently discounted to USD 9.99, works with most magnet-compatible phones and is one of the few smartphone accessories that even includes a conversion kit for older models.

ZAGG Rainier Snap

The Rainier Snap case clamps onto your iPhone and leans hard into protection, with a built-in stand and MagSafe support baked in. It might sound like overkill, but it does the job, which at USD 69.99 you would hope. The grip feels solid, the smartphone kickstand holds steady in both orientations, and the magnetic ring behaves itself with chargers and accessories. Rated for drops up to 22 feet, it uses a graphene-reinforced build for extra toughness. It even has lanyard points and up to 80 percent recycled materials, which makes it a very safe bet for hiker friends who treat their phone like trail gear.

OCTOBUDDY Classic MAX

The OCTOBUDDY Classic MAX is a little more than a silicone pad with 24 suction cups, but that is exactly the point. The brand is OG for a reason, and this is easily one of the hottest travel-friendly creator add-ons right now. Press it onto a train window, a hotel mirror, or even an airport lounge table, and it holds your phone steady for hands-free photos, video calls, or quick travel clips.

The oversized design handles bigger phones without slipping, which is where most dupes fall off. Even if you are not creating content, it is oddly useful for propping your phone up on the go. Priced at INR 5,660 on Amazon India, it feels slightly unhinged, trusting it mid-journey, but it works, and that is exactly why it is worth skipping the cheaper copies.

MOFT Snap-on Phone Stand & Wallet MOVAS

The Snap-on Phone Stand and Wallet MOVAS is essentially a slim MagSafe-compatible magnetic flap that folds into a grip, stand, and card holder. Its origami-style design clicks into place in seconds, holding steady in both portrait and landscape, while keeping two or three cards tucked away without adding bulk. It’s especially useful while travelling: prop it up on a tray table, take a quick video call in a tight seat, or keep your essentials close without rummaging through your bag.

Additionally, it stores up to three cards and doubles as a versatile stand, letting you view content in portrait, landscape, or a slightly elevated “float” mode for more comfortable hands-free use. Priced at INR 2,900 (discounted to INR 2,600 right now), it is currently part of a Mother’s Day special offer where you get 15 percent off when buying two or more items (excluding items under INR 950).

SanDisk Creator Phone SSD (1TB)

At first glance, I was sceptical about whether an external drive really belongs in a traveller’s smartphone accessories setup, but it quickly makes sense once you’re on the move and running out of storage mid-trip. I can still feel the pain from my last trip when my friend’s camera ran out of storage, and everything started piling into my phone. By day 10 of our itinerary, I was offloading 4K footage from both devices just to keep shooting, deleting clips I didn’t want to lose, and basically acting as an unwilling backup drive.

Part of SanDisk’s Creator Series, the SanDisk Creator Phone SSD, available for INR 21,700 on Amazon, attaches directly to a MagSafe-compatible phone, allowing you to offload photos and 4K video instantly instead of relying on cloud backups or deleting files. For long journeys, that alone removes a common frustration. The silicone build, IP65 water and dust resistance, and up to 3-metre drop protection also make it suitable for unpredictable travel conditions. And yes, you could just carry a small USB-C pen drive, but I’ve spoken to many travellers who confirm they’re often limited in capacity, easier to misplace, and not always built for the constant plug-in, travel-heavy use.

LISEN Universal Flight Airplane Phone Holder Mount

For travellers who spend long hours in transit and need a stable hands-free phone setup, the LISEN MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder is a foldable clamp-style mount designed for flat surfaces such as tray tables, luggage handles, desks or shelves. It uses a spring-loaded grip with silicone padding, and supports MagSafe-compatible iPhones from the iPhone 12 to iPhone 17 series, including Pro and Pro Max models, while also working with non-MagSafe phones via an included metal ring.

The clamp fits flat surfaces up to around 1.18 inches (30 mm), and the 360° rotation allows adjustable viewing angles during flights or travel use. Its aluminium alloy body folds down for portability in a pocket or bag, and no, it’s not as heavy as you might assume. It surely won’t turn your carry-on into a dumbbell set. It will set you back INR 2,725, positioning it in the mid-range for travel-focused smartphone accessories in a similar category.

Bellroy Venture Phone Pocket

We all want to avoid that frantic moment of searching through a bag for a missing wallet or folded cash, when everything seems to have slipped out of place at exactly the wrong time. The Bellroy Venture Phone Pocket is designed around preventing that small but familiar travel disorder, bringing essentials together in a structured leather pouch finished with a water-resistant Aquaguard zipper. It fits most standard smartphones and builds in internal organisation for cards, cash, coins and keys, keeping everything contained rather than scattered.

At approximately 100 gm, it remains light and compact, favouring a restrained, considered carry that reduces the need to dig, shuffle, or second-guess where anything has gone. Made from premium leather and priced between USD 79 to USD 99, it is available in Ink and Bronze.
