Take, for example, Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel accessories: slingback heels balanced on pea pods, tendrils and butterflies, honeybee-shaped earrings and miniature handbags in the form of beans, chickens and bears. Together, they felt lifted from fairytales like Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks.
That same sense of wonder took on a more grown-up interpretation at Dior, where Jonathan Anderson paid homage to the house’s inherent codes of femininity with blooms woven throughout the collection. Combined with antique Indian chintz, the result was porcelain clutches featuring the distinctive print and embroidered pumps with three-dimensional florals and tassels that demanded attention with every step. Elements of the chintz also appeared in pendants and earrings, while maximalist necklaces wound around collars like climbing vines.
