According to Jacqueline DiSante, vice president and head of sales of Christie’s New York jewelry division, the biggest engagement ring trend of 2026 has less to do with a specific cut, color, clarity, or carat weight, and more to do with a unique, one-of-a-kind creation that represents the wearer or the couple. “We’re seeing a strong move toward individuality—engagement rings that feel personal and meaningful—future heirlooms in the making,” she reveals. “Classic solitaires and timeless settings will always be chic, but more and more, couples are looking for something custom or a stone that tells a story. Birthstones are becoming more popular for personalization, twin‑stone designs beautifully symbolize partnership, and even elongated or slightly unexpected stone proportions are gaining traction as people move beyond traditional norms.”
Frank Darling cofounder Kegan Fisher mirrors this discovery. “It’s no longer about adding a name or a date—it’s about creating something so entirely specific to you that the idea of someone else wearing it is almost impossible to imagine,” she explains. “We’re seeing cat ears in bands, intricate filigree, birthstones woven into settings, engravings that only two people will ever understand. That sense of singular belonging is what people are chasing.”

That said, Richard Tilles, president of CIRCA, the leading buyer and seller of the finest pre-owned jewelry, diamonds, and luxury watches in the world, reveals that there’s been an uptick in interest in elongated, boat-shaped marquise diamonds (like Selena Gomez’s), which elongate the finger much like their cushion-cut cousin, while adding unexpected points to the mix. “We are getting more requests for marquise diamond rings than we have seen in a long time,” he confirms. “Ovals and pear shapes are still running strong, and demand for antique-cut diamonds is as hot as we’ve ever seen them.”
Meanwhile, Fisher says that interesting engagement ring shapes, as a whole, are surging in popularity. “Emeralds are perennial favorites, but what’s exciting right now is how far beyond that people are going—movals, Dutch marquise, portrait cuts; shapes chosen with real intention by people who’ve done their research and want something that couldn’t belong to anyone else,” she explains.
Elongated Silhouettes
As is evident by the elongated cushion cut and marquise diamond demand, lengthier diamond silhouettes, in general, are trending for 2026. “In 2026, engagement ring trends are still grounded in classic design,” says Ring Concierge CEO and founder Nicole Wegman. “Elongated shapes like ovals, emerald cuts, and elongated cushions are trending for their flattering, easy-to-wear look, while timeless solitaires remain in strong demand.”
Large Center and Solitary Stones
Jewelry experts say larger center stones are having a major moment right now. “Carat sizes are also going up, largely driven by lab-grown diamonds, which allow people to focus on optimizing carat weight,” Wegman reveals. “We’ve seen demand for rings with center diamonds below two carats stay relatively quiet,” Tilles echoes.
On the topic of lab-grown diamonds, Fisher reports that the demand is due to the abundance of options they allow for. “Lab gives couples freedom—more carats, better color, without the compromise,” she explains. “But the natural buyer is still very much here. For some, provenance matters deeply. We never push either way and help people figure out what actually matters to them.”
Irregularities and Imperfections (Yes, Really)

Nowadays, however, Wegman says that flawless perfection isn’t a requirement. “We’re seeing a more nuanced mindset from those choosing natural diamonds: less fixation on perfect color or clarity, and more appreciation for subtle irregularities that signal rarity and authenticity,” she explains.
Colored Diamonds
Colorless white diamonds will always be the classic option; however, in 2026, jewelers are making a case for color. “It’s not the saturated sapphire moment of a few years ago—what we’re seeing now is more nuanced: champagne, warm yellows, blush pinks, rich browns,” Fisher says. “We’re seeing clients intentionally choose warmer diamond stones—H, I, even through M—and they look stunning with yellow gold.”
New York City jewelry designer and third-generation gemstone dealer Julia Chafe concurs on the topic of color. “Colored stones are in; everyone wants to feel different, and colored stone accents make you stand out,” she explains. Of all the colored diamonds out there, Chafe says that nude diamonds are growing especially popular. “Nude colors aren’t as prevalent in lab-grown diamonds—people are shifting towards color as a differentiator between lab and natural,” she explains.

This year, jewelers are noticing a surge in special, intentional settings and bands. “Where we’re seeing trends change the most is in the details—bands with texture and dimension, soft curved designs, and antique-inspired settings are becoming more popular,” Wegman points out.

On that note, Fisher says that sculptural settings are having a moment, too. “The delicate solitaire isn’t going anywhere, but sitting alongside it now is something bolder—chunky, architectural settings with real sculptural presence,” she reveals. “Couples are arriving with references from art and architecture as much as jewelry, and the results are some of the most distinctive pieces we’ve seen in years.”
Unconventional Wedding Bands
In addition to shifting engagement ring trends, go-to wedding band styles are expanding as well. “As whisper-thin solitaires continue to dominate, we’re seeing women become more expressive with their wedding bands, investing in bolder silhouettes, stacked bridal looks, and styles like open bands, curved bands, and enhancers to create a more personalized pairing,” says Inna Kushnirski, a bridal merchandiser at Gabriel & Co.

The center stone is usually the starting point, and from there, we build around it so the ring feels balanced and intentional, not overdone.”
One more thing to consider when engagement ring shopping? Your daily life. “We’re seeing more focus on how a ring will wear over time,” Wegman shares. “People are thinking about how it sits on the hand, how it will pair with a band, and how it will feel day to day. Since most people only wear their engagement ring alone for a short time, those details really matter. In the end, it’s about creating something that feels personal but still holds up long term, something you love now and still feel good about years from now.”
