This Cult Jewellery Brand Has Launched Its First-Ever High Street Collaboration With John Lewis

by R.Donald

Completedworks is always a highlight of the London Fashion Week schedule. As one of the few jewellery brands that show, it’s known for pushing beyond the traditional runway format and featuring beloved actors from Debi Mazar (AW25) to Jemima Kirke (AW26) to national treasure Johanna Lumley (AW24) as part of its boundary-defying performances. Founded in 2013 by London-based Anna Jewsbury, the jewellery and ceramics brand expertly marries together statement design and wearable jewellery via pieces that read as both playful and elevated. Today, the brand adds a new string to its bow via a 13-piece jewellery collaboration with heritage retailer John Lewis.

‘The brief was about bringing the Completedworks design language to a wider audience,’ Jewsbury explains. ‘It features a running theme of knots, which speaks to connection and the bonds held between people, as well as ties to the past.’ The two ‘knotted’ pieces in the collection – a pair of hoop earrings and a pendant necklace – are rendered in resin. They are the kind of piece that can subtly elevate everyday dressing in a way that feels effortless.

Another recurring theme of the collection is one that’s also central to the brand’s mainline collections. ‘We often come back to flowers because they carry a sense of fragility and romance, but they are also very traditional,’ Jewsbury tells ELLE. ‘Finding a way to be subversive with a traditional motif is quite exciting.’

Working with recycled brass and silver alongside freshwater and brass pearls, the collection explores the potential of different materials. A classic pearl stud is transformed with the addition of a brass flower, and then again with the addition of three dangling, pearl-adorned tentacles, and again with a singular, elegant chain of pearls. ‘They aren’t overly formal, though you can wear them that way; they are intended to become a part of someone’s everyday life.’

‘John Lewis has a unique place within British culture,’ says Jewsbury. ‘By the nature of what they sell, it connects you to everyday rituals but also important life moments – moving house, weddings, or a growing family.’ It’s this emotional connection that makes Completedworks and John Lewis such a great fit for one another. By way of the nature of jewellery, it carries memories in a similar way, with each piece from the collection imbuing a sentimentality and timelessness that comes from rising above passing trends and honing in on a unique point of view.

With prices ranging between £95 to £245, the collection is markedly more accessible than mainline Completedworks. Similarly, in creating the collection, Jewsbury wanted the pieces themselves to feel accessible – not just in price but in their very nature. ‘It was important that the pieces still carried that sense of character and individuality without being intimidating. I hope we’ve managed to achieve that.’

The collection is launching today (14 May) at johnlewis.com and in selected stores.
