Premium automobile sales are at their peak in India, with millennials and Gen Z ultra rich making a beeline to grab their hands on shiny new cars. Per Rushlane’s reporting, luxury car Lamborghini has been sold out in India until 2027.
The Italian automaker sells highly sought-after models, including Urus, Huracan, and Revuelto, in the country. The cars are imported in India as single-built-up units and hence levied 100% custom duty, making them pricier than the retail price. The Lamborghini brand of cars is priced anywhere between an upwards of 4 crore and Rs 9 crore. Road taxes and local taxes are not inclusive of the purchase price.
Aspirational among the celebs, several Bollywood celebs, sportstars, and illustrious personalities own one in their garage, including Ranveer Singh, Rohit Sharma, Mukesh Ambani, and Shraddha Kapoor, among others. Millennials and Gen Zs aspire to flaunt one as a status symbol. Prior to COVID-19, Bengaluru accounted for more than 50% of Lamborghini’s sales in India. The Silicon Valley of India is also dubbed the Super Car Capital of India. It also hosts one of the three authorized showrooms for Lamborghini in India, including Delhi and Mumbai.

Another suggested, “Instead of buying one in India at the same cost, one can buy two in Dubai or the US.” One user recalled the jibe by renowned comic and actor Vir Das, “Two India,” that poignantly describes how we exist compartmentalized into two distinct notions of nation—the rich and the poor. One user quipped, “Vishwaguru of billionaires.” The user further alleged, “Those who hoard the Real Estate and Resources of the country are buying the Lambos.”
