Following the reveal of its new Kaveya all-electric hypercar at the Las Vegas Concours at Wynn in November 2023, Karma Automotive seized the spotlight at this year’s annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance spectacle to finally pull the sheets off their latest creation: Hot off the press: the Gyesera, Karma’s all-new, first all-electric, ultra-luxury hyper sedan. Arriving as a follow-up to the Kaveya, the Gyesera showcases and previews the automaker’s conceptual trajectory for the near future as the company continues to reinvent itself following its rather rocky and troubled origins.


Originally teased alongside the Kaveya in Las Vegas, the Gyesera officially revealed its sheet metal to the spectating public on the fairway of Hole 10 at the Golf Club of Amelia Island, showcasing a low-slung, four-door-coupe-like profile with a long hood and a wide stance, similar to the Revero that it will soon replace.

The Gyesera Is Karma’s First All-Electric Sedan

Translating to the meaning “Earth Princess” as a sort of play on words from different languages, the Gyesera joins the Kaveya in Karma’s lineup as the company’s first-ever all-electric sedan in a mission to take the ultra-luxurious and exotic EV space by storm. But isn’t the Revero also a battery-electric vehicle, you may ask?

While technically yes, the Revero is a range-extended battery-electric vehicle, meaning it still comes with a small gasoline-powered internal combustion engine that helps to recharge the main propulsion battery and extend overall driving range. The Gyesera, on the other hand, separates itself from the Revero by being the automaker’s first completely electric sedan, meaning no gas-powered range-extender is on board.


“The Gyesera is a bridge to our new design philosophy and product strategy,” President Marques McCammon told us in an exclusive interview. “Before this, the Revero, which is a hybrid-electric vehicle, has been the primary vehicle from Karma. This [the Gyesera] is our move into the full battery-electric sedan space.”

Details Are Still Limited On The Pre-Production Karma Gyesera

Technical specifics are sparse, as both the Gyesera and Kaveya are still in their final concept stages as works in progress. But some of the statistical benchmarks established by McCammon and his engineers for the Gyesera include a 250-mile plus range, around 590 horsepower and around 700 pound-feet of torque in total output, a top speed of over 135 mph, and a 0-60 time of around 4.2 seconds.

Underneath, the Gyesera may share its origins with the same GM-sourced E-Flex platform underpinning the current production Revero and the Fisker Karma (and Chevrolet Volt) before it. But like other automakers who start with an expandable vehicle platform and modify it to fit their needs, the Gyesera’s platform itself shares nothing directly in common with the Revero and Fisker Karma. Despite its roots, the Gyesera is completely new from the ground up, featuring not just a completely reengineered chassis, but completely reworked suspension, brakes, chassis tuning, and above all, a completely new all-electric powertrain, sans the Revero’s range-extending GM-sourced gasoline engine.

“The Gyesera will be the first all-new of its kind, establishing the new baseline for our future plans, with a conveyor following after it,” McCammon continued. “It’s not a rehash but, but to say that it doesn’t have some heritage in the original Karma would be a misstatement.”


Despite The Names, Karma And FIsker Have Nothing To Do With Each Other

So if you were also wondering if this is the same Karma name related to Henrik Fisker’s late original venture, Fisker, and its Karma sedan, the answer is a yes. But what President Marques McCammon and his team want you and everyone to know is, no, this is not the same company by any stretch of means. In fact, there’s absolutely no relation to the Fisker brand that came before it.

Sure, some bloodline connections could be made with its current production Revero, which is essentially an updated Fisker Karma range-extended battery electric vehicle reengineered for the times. But beyond that, there’s nothing that Karma Automotive and Fisker share in common, especially following Fisker’s bankruptcy and the change in ownership of the Karma branding rights to Chinese auto parts supplier, Wanxiang, in 2014. Ultimately, this is not the Fisker Karma that you probably last remember.


“Everyone naturally associates Karma with Fisker, but the reality is that we have absolutely nothing to do with them at all,” McCammon told us in our exclusive interview. “His [Henrik Fisker] business is completely separate, so the only connection is that back 10 years ago, our parent company bought his assets and we used that as the base to start.”

Not only is the company internally completely different, but its headquarters has a new office in Irvine, California as opposed to Fisker’s original office in Anaheim. The old Fisker assembly plant in Wilmington, Delaware, also closed up shop long ago, making way for Karma Automotive’s new plant in Moreno Valley, California, where it currently produces the Revero today. And the Kaveya and Gyesera both represent Karma’s new future producing America’s only ultra-luxurious battery electric vehicles designed, engineered, and manufactured here in the United States.


Karma Is Competing With Both Tesla And Cadillac

But what about Tesla and General Motors, you may ask? While yes, they are both American-based multinational companies designing, engineering, and manufacturing BEVs all on Yankee land, neither of them reaches as high and exclusively into the exotic market as Karma. Yes, Cadillac does have the limited-production and supposedly $300,000-plus Celestiq, but Karma seeks to be even more exclusive than the Celestiq’s annual cap of just 500 units. When further elaborating during our interview, McCammon likened his firm to an ultra-exclusive, ultra-luxury, and opulently expensive coachbuilder.

“In comparison to vehicles like the Cadillac Celestiq or even the Porsche Taycan, our vehicles will be more exclusive,” McCammon explained. “We always intend to, in a given year, have our vehicles be relatively low volume. All our cars are customized to the buyer, every vehicle features a sill plate serialized to the buyer, and on top, there’s something about each car that is custom to the buyer.”
