Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Revealed Ahead of Official Launch

by R.Donald

Xiaomi has officially taken the wraps off its all-new Sky Nomad sub-brand, introducing a fresh lineup of large extended-range electric SUVs (EREVs) designed for families, outdoor adventures, and flexible everyday living.

Following the success of the Xiaomi SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV, the Chinese technology giant is expanding into one of the country’s fastest-growing vehicle segments with a range of spacious, lifestyle-oriented SUVs.

The first members of the Sky Nomad family have already appeared in China’s latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory filings, revealing key specifications ahead of their official debut.

Xiaomi Launches the Sky Nomad SUV Family

The new lineup includes four models:

– SkyNomad N90 Max
– SkyNomad N90 Max Camping Edition
– SkyNomad N70
– SkyNomad N70 Max

All four are extended-range electric vehicles powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that serves exclusively as a range extender while electric motors drive the wheels.

According to Xiaomi, Sky Nomad is positioned as a lineup of “smart, versatile large-space SUVs,” with a stronger emphasis on interior comfort and flexibility than the company’s existing performance-oriented models.

Designed Around Interior Living Space

Unlike the sporty SU7 and YU7, the SkyNomad N90 adopts a more upright, boxy silhouette that prioritizes passenger space over sleek styling. Xiaomi describes the vehicle as an “intelligent expanding-space SUV,” combining SUV practicality with the interior versatility typically associated with premium MPVs.

Rather than showcasing a traditional interior, Xiaomi released floor-plan style illustrations highlighting the vehicle’s adaptable cabin.

The flexible seating system is expected to include:

– Rotating front seats
– Sliding second-row seats
– Multiple table configurations
– Fold-flat seating arrangements
– Available five-seat and seven-seat layouts

Xiaomi says the cabin can transform into several different environments, including:

– A personal workspace
– A lounge for two
– A mobile meeting room
– A family entertainment area

The company has clearly focused on making the cabin a true multifunctional living space rather than simply transporting passengers.

Camping Edition Targets Outdoor Enthusiasts

One of the most interesting additions to the lineup is the SkyNomad N90 Max Camping Edition.

Instead of being classified as a standard passenger vehicle, MIIT lists it as a special-purpose lifestyle vehicle equipped specifically for outdoor recreation.

Factory-installed equipment includes:

– Pop-up roof
– Rooftop sleeping platform
– Side storage cabinets
– Side awning connection
– Optional onboard projector
– Detachable table

Xiaomi says the vehicle is intended for activities such as camping, outdoor recreation, team events and mobile workspaces.

The pop-up roof is approved for use only while the vehicle is parked and off public roads.

Large Dimensions Put It Among China’s Biggest SUVs

The flagship N90 Max measures:

Specification Xiaomi Sky NomadN90 Max
Length 5,285 mm
Width 1,998 mm
Height 1,825 mm
Wheelbase 3,080 mm

Those dimensions make it one of Xiaomi’s largest vehicles to date and place it directly alongside premium three-row SUVs such as the Li Auto L9, Aito M9 and NIO ES8.

The smaller N70 models still offer generous proportions:

Specification Xiaomi SkyNomad N70
Length 4,960 mm
Width 1,998 mm
Height 1,785 mm
Wheelbase 2,950 mm

Both N70 variants are configured as five-seat SUVs.

Dual-Motor Powertrain for the Flagship

Regulatory documents confirm that every Sky Nomad model uses a 1.5-liter range-extending gasoline engine supplied by Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine.

The engine produces a maximum net output of 112 kW and functions solely as a generator to recharge the battery while driving.

Although Xiaomi has yet to publish official performance figures, industry reports suggest the larger battery packs could exceed 70 kWh, delivering approximately 400 to 500 km (249–311 miles) of electric-only driving range. Total combined driving range could surpass 1,500 km (932 miles), although those figures remain unofficial until Xiaomi confirms final specifications.

Advanced Technology Expected

The teaser images also reveal a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, suggesting the Sky Nomad lineup will feature Xiaomi’s latest advanced driver assistance technologies.

The vehicles are built on Xiaomi’s new Kunlun architecture, which has reportedly been under development since early 2023. The dedicated platform features a flat floor and long-wheelbase design to maximize interior packaging and passenger comfort.

According to Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun, engineers spent approximately three and a half years refining the platform with the goal of creating a true “living space” on wheels.

Entering One of China’s Most Competitive Segments

Large premium SUVs have become one of China’s hottest automotive segments, with consumers increasingly favoring spacious three-row vehicles that blend luxury, technology and family practicality.

The Sky NomadN90 will compete directly with established models including the Li Auto L9, Aito M9 and NIO ES8.

Despite the intense competition, Xiaomi has already demonstrated its ability to break into crowded markets. Both the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV quickly became strong sellers after launch, helping establish the company as one of China’s fastest-growing EV manufacturers.
