The Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) was dispatched to the 1100 block of Mansfield Street for a reported house fire around 9:26 p.m.
Firefighters discovered flames coming from the living room of the house upon arrival.
The fire was contained and extinguished in the area, but the residence had already sustained significant smoke and fire damage.

MPSD suspects that the fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking material.
