FWFD: 2 pets dead following house fire on city’s northeast side

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to a fire on the city’s northeast side Sunday.

The department says firefighters were called to the 4000 block of Springwood Drive around 1:45 p.m. on a report of smoke coming from the roof of a residence.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they say they searched the structure and began an aggressive attack after flames were found in the house’s kitchen.

According to the department, the fire took approximately 15 minutes to extinguish, causing minor water damage, moderate fire damage, and heavy smoke damage.

FWFD says no one was inside; however, one cat and one dog died.

The fire remains under investigation.
