The Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee, in collaboration with Thimble Island Brewing Company, has announced the launch of the second annual Luck of the Irish label contest. This unique fundraiser, running from March 1 to April 15, offers pet owners the chance to see their furry friends featured on a special edition beer label, with proceeds benefiting both the parade committee and the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
How the Contest Works
Participants can submit a photo of their pet with a $10 entry fee. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite submissions online, at a cost of $1 per vote. The competition is open to a wide array of pets, as seen in the previous year’s entries which included cats, dogs, chickens, and horses. The top three finalists will be invited to a VIP event in early May at Thimble Island Brewing Company in Branford, where the winner will be revealed.
Previous Success and Aims
Last year’s contest was a notable success, with Zander, a black lab mix and rescue dog, winning the coveted spot on the beer label. The contest managed to raise $1,400 for the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter. Beyond raising funds, the contest also aims to promote pet adoption, encouraging individuals to choose rescue animals over purchasing from breeders.
