TEMERLOH, Aug 23 — A civil defence officer who was bitten by a cobra while demonstrating how to handle the reptile at a community programme here yesterday, died early this morning.
The Temerloh Civil Defence Force officer Sergeant Muhamad Muazam Shah Kamardin, 39, died at 1.50am while receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here, Malay news outlet BH reported.
Pahang Civil Defence Force director Colonel Che Adam A Rahman said the deceased’s remains would be managed and prayers held at Kampung Bukit Kelulut Mosque before he is buried at the Kampung Bukit Kelulut Muslim Cemetery this morning.
The burial is expected to take place at about 9am.
Muhamad Muazam Shah was reportedly single and had an elder sister.
The incident happened at about 10.50am yesterday when Muhamad Muazam Shah was bitten on the middle finger of his right hand by a king cobra during a snake-handling demonstration at Dewan Taman Temerloh Jaya.
The Temerloh Civil Defence Force team had been invited to take part in the government’s nationwide health tour, where it conducted the demonstration for participants.
Che Adam said Muhamad Muazam Shah left the hall after being bitten to wash his hand before suddenly collapsing outside.
He was rushed to the hospital for further treatment and placed in the Red Zone for critical patients but pronounced dead at 1.50am today.
