Is it truly living a good life if you’re 40,000 feet high in your private plane with plain drab dull walls, the usual layout, and the same unchanging view? A culinary delight is one underrated joy that London-based design firm PriestmanGoode is banking on, and how! To make matters interesting and lip-smacking in the skies, they are offering Culinary Odyssey, a new interior concept for private aviation. It replaces the ordinary with innovation, stirs things up to come up with modern solutions for luxe lifestyles and the ultimate dining experience in the sky. The firm’s website explains: “We see the luxury market evolving towards a younger profile, working in new, emerging sectors, in different parts of the world, and with changing values. We feel that current private aviation interiors don’t always reflect that.” It takes away the usual front-facing layout and works around what is essentially the chef’s table – “a stage from which the culinary experience will unfold.”

This is combined with a casual lounge and coffee table. All the cooking is done in the galley, and guests are only party to the final presentations, with a touch of theatrics much like at a restaurant. As space is limited in an airplane, the space transforms once all the food business is done. People can then tend to actual business once the table easily transforms into a meeting space, with custom lighting setting the mood. “The lounge is configured for less formal discussion or work from a tablet – or as a relaxing, entertainment space.”

The Culinary Odyssey concept caters to a younger profile of clients emerging in the luxury sector. It is for the experimental entrepreneur who will enjoy the play of contrasting materials, division of space into the kitchen, dining space, and aft lounge. The space, based on the A320 airframe, looks more hotel-like and less private jet-like with a striking combination of textiles, custom metalwork, and hand-tufted carpets.

The cynosure of the concept is the massive light feature above the dining table that creates an immersive atmosphere. As the day progresses, the lighting changes too from bright to a more intimate setting. Culinary Odyssey may be a concept for now, but any budding billionaire will see it’s an atmosphere that’s creative and inspiring with a dash of great food and make it a sparkling reality.
