Passengers categorised as “high-risk” who arrive in Britain on private jets are being allowed into the country without security checks, according to the chief inspector of borders and immigration.

David Neal said that he had found dangerous failings in security checks at London City airport and added that data provided by the Home Office showed that Border Force had failed to check the passports of passengers landing on hundreds of private and chartered aircraft at the airport last year.

These flights are known as “general aviation” and Border Force officers are required to check 100 per cent of passengers on flights that they categorise as “high-risk”.

However, Neal told the Daily Mail that only 21 per cent of the flights had been inspected by immigration
