Setna iO grows teardown portfolio with dual aircraft acquisitions

by R.Donald

Setna iO has expanded its aircraft teardown pipeline with the acquisition of an Airbus A320neo airframe and a Boeing 757-300, adding next-generation narrowbody and airframe and engine material to its aftermarket portfolio.

The A320neo, previously operated by Spirit Airlines, marks Setna iO’s first acquisition of the aircraft type for teardown in the US. The aircraft will be disassembled at AerSale’s facility in Goodyear, Arizona.

Building on the company’s previous A321neo programmes, components recovered from the aircraft will support operators, lessors and MROs with used serviceable material and freshly repaired components.

Setna iO has also acquired a 757-300 equipped with two installed Rolls-Royce RB211-535 engines. The airframe will be disassembled at ecube Solutions in the UK, while the two engines will undergo separate disassembly, with valuable parts routed for repair.

Across both projects, recovered components will move through Setna iO’s integrated repair network, including Zulu Global, Landing Gear Technologies (LGT), Setnix and Setna Parts Lab, as well as its network of MRO partners.

Tom Boulcott, partner and chief strategy officer at Setna iO, said the A320neo acquisition represented “another step in our continued investment in the global aerospace aftermarket”.

He added: “Building on the knowledge and experience gained from previous A321neo programmes, this project further expands our ability to support operators, lessors and MROs with high-quality used serviceable material and freshly repaired components.”

The acquisition also creates opportunities for J&C Aero, which is now part of the Setna Group, to support aircraft interiors, seats and other cabin components sourced from modern A320neo aircraft.

Commenting on the 757-300 acquisition, Hunter Edens, partner and chief commercial officer at Setna iO, said: “This acquisition allows us to support two high-demand platforms at once, the 757 airframe and the RB211 engine, through a single teardown.”

He added: “We’re able to take a single asset and generate value across multiple repair capabilities within the group, while continuing to serve operators, lessors and MROs with the material they need.”
