Wedding Tourism in Greece Growing Fast

by R.Donald

Wedding tourism is emerging as one of the fastest-growing segments of the Greek travel industry, generating millions of euros in revenue and mobilizing a wide network of suppliers from hotels and event venues to local businesses, according to organizers of the sector’s first dedicated conference.

The 1st Destination Weddings Tourism Forum — Greece 2026 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at the Aigli Zappeion in Athens, under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) and the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE). The event will bring together industry stakeholders to discuss trends and opportunities shaping the future of destination wedding tourism in Greece.

Thomas Politis, president of the Greek Destination Planners Association (GDPA), said the sector had achieved significant growth, with destination weddings generating multi-million euro revenues and creating a multiplier effect across hospitality, catering, transport, and event planning services. The association currently has nearly 70 members, who promote destinations across the country through organized familiarization trips, helping to raise the profile of areas beyond the established tourist hubs.

Attica records the highest demand for destination weddings, with the Athens Riviera ranking as the top location in the country, Politis told the state news agency ANA-MPA. The Greek capital’s accessibility and strong international air connectivity were cited as key competitive advantages in attracting couples from around the world.

The Peloponnese is also a particularly strong market in wedding tourism, led by Costa Navarino and destinations such as the Mani peninsula, while the Saronic islands of Hydra and Spetses remain consistently popular choices.
