Eight foreign nationals have been arrested in Lefkada after Hellenic Coast Guard officials discovered a variety of drugs aboard a sailing boat during a search.
Acting on information received by authorities, Coast Guard officers went to the port of Perigiali on the island’s eastern coast, where, in the presence of a judicial officer, they searched a private catamaran and found assorted narcotics. The vessel was confiscated along with the drugs.
The seized substances included more than 55 grams of cannabis, 10 grams of crystalline methamphetamine (MDMA), nylon packages containing just over 8 grams of cocaine, more than a dozen ecstasy pills, and a dozen blue pills of unknown chemical composition, while plates with cannabis residues and banknotes bearing traces of cocaine were also confiscated.
Authorities also seized cash in three currencies, including €7,000 in euros, as well as mobile phones and a laptop.
Of the eight people arrested, four are Israeli nationals, while the others are citizens of Turkey, Italy, Spain and Latvia.
