Lagaria unveils 90m superyacht concept with vast open terrace amidships

Young Monaco-based design studio Lagaria has unveiled a new 90-metre superyacht concept known as Platea.

According to studio founders Magnus Naglestad and Adeline Lagaria, the motor yacht has been developed around a conviction that the best experience on board happens outside. As such, Platea showcases an unusual inverted layout, prioritising exterior deck areas over “filling her hull with enclosed volume”.

The main deck is central to the yacht’s design – in what the founders describe as a “floating beach club of unusual generosity” – as one continuous social area. Beginning at the stern, Platea features an open-plan bar, lounge and dining space, which flows directly into a grand protected terrace with an oversized pool, jacuzzi and another full-service bar.

A helipad is situated on the elevated foredeck for easy access on board

With outdoor living prioritised, all guest accommodation on board has been deliberately situated on the lower deck – the designers’ reasoning that “prime real estate” should instead be given to social spaces used throughout the day.

Other intentional design choices include the positioning of the bridge, which sits aft of midship. Inspired by Scandinavian well-boat design, the move frees up the yacht’s centre for a large social zone, while simultaneously reducing enclosed volume and offering full operational visibility via large wing stations. For the owner’s accommodation, a private apartment with a balcony lies aft.

The main deck space can be used for extravagant events including fashion shows

Platea is said to sit at approximately 20 per cent lower gross tonnage than comparable 90-metre charter yachts. Aside from aesthetic choices, the concept has been driven by the idea that experiential quality drives charter demand, instead of interior volume.

According to the founders, “a yacht with a smarter spatial hierarchy can command disproportionately higher charter revenue per gross ton despite substantially lower internal volume.” On board Platea, spatial efficiency has been treated as a discipline throughout, prioritising space in favour of the guest experience.

“The result is a concept that looks like nothing currently on the water, because it was designed from an entirely different set of questions,” the founders concluded.

The studio recently collaborated with Turkish shipyard RMK Yachts on a 58-metre “visionary superyacht project” known as Orca 58, which was officially unveiled at the 2025 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
