No pollution of the sea or marine environment was observed near the islet of Kraljevac near Čiovo, where a burnt motor yacht registered under the flag of the Republic of Malta sank on Monday, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure reported.
The National Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Rijeka) received information at 11,45 am about a fire on a motor yacht near the island of Čiovo, which immediately informed the Harbour Master’s Office. Split and other emergency services.
The fire, it is emphasized, broke out while anchoring in the Fumija Bay on the south side of the islet of Kraljevac, but despite efforts to contain it, the Split Harbour Master’s Office reported at 3:47 p.m. that the burning motor yacht had sunk to a depth of more than 31 meters.
All six passengers were evacuated without injury.
The Port Authority officials are on the scene. Split determined that a 20,63-meter-long motor yacht, registered for personal use under the flag of the Republic of Malta, sank after catching fire, while all associated ship and navigational documentation was valid.
“No pollution of the sea or the marine environment was observed at the accident site, and the site is under the supervision of the firefighting vessel ‘Sv Florijan’,” the Ministry reported, adding that a warning message has been sent to all participants in maritime traffic in that part of the water area.
The Headquarters also reported on the coordinated action of the Hvar Branch officers in providing support to firefighters in containing the fire in the Pakleni archipelago.
Seven members of the Hvar Fire Department were transported with firefighting equipment by rescue boat to the location of the fire in Vlaka Bay on the islet of Sv. Klement. Some firefighters began extinguishing the fire with a pump directly from the boat, while others disembarked on shore, from where they began dousing the area.
Firefighters on the island remain on night duty, and a rescue boat is on standby, they added.
