FOLDABLE phones have come a long way, but doubts like being “too delicate” or “easy to break” continue to loom over this smartphone segment.

Rethinking structural foundation
HONOR’s consumer research found that 33% of prospective buyers are hesitant towards foldable smartphones, including fears that the hinge will loosen, the chassis will warp, or that the phone will crack under pressure.
HONOR’s Magic V6 addresses these concerns with the HONOR Super Steel Hinge, engineered from a super-steel with a tensile strength of 2,800 MPa, making it one of the strongest commercial-grade speciality steel ever used in a consumer device.
Despite the aerospace-grade materials, the Magic V6 phone keeps a slim profile: 219g total weight, 8.75mm folded, and just 4mm thin when open.
Independent testing by SGS confirmed that the phone successfully completed the 500,000-fold durability test, which translates to more than 13 years of use at 100 folds a day, according to HONOR.
To validate this structural integrity, HONOR put the Magic V6 through two tests: towing a commercial aircraft for 150m and hauling a supercar for 30m.
The aircraft-towing challenge was officially certified on-site by the Asia Record for ‘Heaviest Aircraft Towed by a Foldable Smartphone’.
In another demonstration, the phone was used to support a full-grown adult performing pull-ups, with no apparent deformation or damage to the frame – living up to the brand’s promise of “slim, not soft”.
If it can haul a commercial aircraft and a supercar, daily wear and accidental drops hardly feel like worries users will need to lose sleep over.
Screen protection
When it comes to owning foldable phones, screen vulnerability usually keeps users on edge – be it from outer display scratches to the inner display wearing down from tens of thousands of open-and-close cycles.
Stacked with 5,600 layers of silicon nitride coating, the Magic V6’s outer display – the HONOR Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, is said to withstand everyday pocket hazards like keys and coins.
According to HONOR, it delivers 10 times improved drop resistance, 15 times improved scratch resistance, three times greater abrasion resistance and three times better anti-glare performance.
With a reflectance as low as 1.5%, it also keeps the screen legible even in direct sunlight.
To put the scratch resistance to the test, HONOR ran a grinder – fresh off sanding through sandpaper and rust – across the outer display, which came away seemingly unscathed.
On the inner display, Magic V6 features the all-new HONOR Magic Diamond Screen, equipped with the ultra-tough Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) flexible glass.
Compared to conventional CPI plastic cover panels, UTG delivers a leap in hardness, light transmittance and impact resistance.
Combined with the hinge’s precision support structure, the inner screen has earned “Zero-Perception Crease” certified by SGS, delivering on the promise of “flexible, but far from fragile”.
Protection in every scenario
Beyond structure and screen, foldable phones have two silent threats: water and dust.
The folding mechanism inherently creates gaps throughout the device. If those gaps aren’t sealed properly, moisture and particles find their way in, causing hinge noise, corroded flex cables and even short circuits.
HONOR Magic V6 tackles this with class-leading IP68 + IP69 dust and water resistance – rated for submersion at 1.5 metres, and certified against high-temperature, high-pressure water jets.
