North West Just Took Hair Embellishments to the Next Level

North West is officially entering a new era with the release of her debut EP N0rth4evr, and she’s doing so with a new take on hair embellishments.

Over the last few years, as all things Y2K resurge, hair embellishments have been rising in popularity—from hair gems to star clips, tinsel extensions, and barrettes. A succession of retro ornaments has come to the forefront again, and North West is taking the hair accessories trend to the next level with her own take on spiky hair. (And no, of course it’s not in the obvious way.)

Over the weekend, the 12-year-old was seen around LA celebrating the release of N0rth4evr, with her now trademark blue hair adorned with silver spiky studs across the crown of her head and along the tendrils framing her face.

The studded hair made a cameo on the star’s own Instagram account, where she posted two selfies giving fans a closer look at the style and her equally embellished, duck manicure, which matched the teal of her hair with accents of black and white to complement her goth-inspired outfit.

The studded hairstyle also features on the joint TikTok account she shares with her mom, Kim Kardashian, where she gave us a peek at her full black-and-white look, featuring her go-to Balenciaga Le Cagole bag and her trusty Rick Owens sneakers.

North West wore this particular look to a pop-up hosted by Complex in LA in honor of the EP, which was also attended by her father, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. While the studded hair is a first for her, it aligns with the daring aesthetic she has favored over the past few months, which also shines in the music video for her new project, and where spikes, studs, and faux piercings reign supreme.
