And although prices can soar into the high hundreds, he does point out that spending more doesn’t always give better results. “Honestly, I would keep it simple. A lot of the more basic devices, even a manual gua sha that costs a few pounds, are absolutely fine and can do the job.” If it’s more than sculpting that you’re after, then Dr Ahmed suggests looking for devices that also incorporate LED therapy. “This will support overall skin health too, like collagen stimulation and easing inflammation,” he says.

This nifty device first came into my possession as part of the Shark Facial ProGlow facial device (the brand’s take on a suction facial), and it quickly became obvious that the DePuffi attachment was my favourite part of the whole tool. I tend to reach for it on particularly tired mornings when my face feels puffy and a bit flat, as the treatment can be done in just four minutes if you’re in a rush. You can choose from InstaChill or InstaHeat, depending on whether you want to sculpt or boost glow, and it’s incredibly effective.
After finishing my morning skincare routine, and generously applying serum and moisturiser for slip, I just glide this over my cheekbones and jaw for a few minutes on the cool setting, and it instantly makes my face look fresher and more lifted. It’s very intuitive too (there’s no app required), and while the results aren’t permanent, there’s a definite short-term sculpting effect, especially around my jawline. It also doesn’t really matter that the benefits aren’t particularly long-lasting, as consistent use is so easy when it’s this simple and seamless to use.

Ziip was the facial sculpting tool that I had the highest hopes for, as I have heard so much positive praise for this device since it launched a few years back, with celebrities like Margot Robbie and Jennifer Aniston reportedly swearing by it. This year, the original device was succeeded by the Ziip Halo 2.0—an updated microcurrent device with app-led treatments for a whole range of skin concerns.
It definitely feels like an advanced tool, and the app is a big part of the experience, guiding you through treatments for lifting, sculpting and even support for managing breakouts. It took me a couple of tries to get used to it, but with consistent use (three to five times a week), I have noticed a definite improvement in cheekbone definition and the overall texture and clarity in my skin tone. It’s an investment, but one that pays off.

The price tag of this device means that it’s clear from the off that you’re delivering in a really premium piece of kit here, but the combination of microcurrent technology, LED light, and T-Sonic massage means that you’re getting a real all-round skin treatment with this. You don’t need to use it with an app, which I appreciate (although you can access additional settings via one if you want to), and the interface is pleasingly straightforward. Just switch it on and then adjust the intensity as you go.
It feels slightly warming and a bit tingly as you move it across your skin, and whilst the sculpting results do take a few sessions to build, they are really noticeable around the jawline specifically. Plus, the overall clarity of my skin just feels firmer, smoother and more even in texture, especially around the sides of my face where I have quite a lot of acne scarring. This is definitely less about quick fixes and more about long-term improvement of your skin.
4. Medicube Mini Booster Pro Plus
This is one of the simplest devices I’ve used, and that’s exactly why I like it. It comes in two parts—the Mini Plus itself and the Roller Head. Plus, there’s also a cleansing brush attachment, which you can buy separately. You select from red, blue or purple light (depending on whether you want help with firming, refining or massaging skin), then slot it into the roller head and get going.
There’s no app, and it’s very much a glide-and-go situation with the face roller attachment feeling amazing on the skin—just like a mini facial. The two-pronged head also doubles as a great tool for massaging the neck as well. I’d say that it’s more about maintaining your skin rather than any dramatic lift, but if you’re new to facial toning tools and want to really pamper yourself, then it’s a great place to start.

However, if it is purely the facial sculpting that you’re after, then the NuFace Mini makes a great option. It’s small, portable and uses advanced microcurrent technology to massage the skin, smooth fine lines and tone and firm. Though consistency is key with this one if you want long-term results, there are immediate results with a slight lift straight after using and less puffiness in the face. But the real payoff comes with regular use.

When I say that this is a basic sculpting device, I mean it in a good way. If you feel intimidated by skincare tools and technology, then the simplicity of this one will definitely appeal. It’s compact, easy to use, and the sessions last for around five minutes at a time. You can use the Geske app to select the treatment that you want for your skin type, then you switch it on and use it in conjunction with the brand’s microcurrent gel. It’s not the most transformative option, but it does deliver on slightly tightening and lifting the skin, so it’s a great place to start if you’re curious about sculpting tools without wanting to make a huge investment quite yet.

I am a huge fan of FaceGym for their in-salon treatments. They are one of the few facials I’ve experienced where I step outside afterwards and feel like my face looks dramatically different in terms of its shape. This device feels as close to an in-clinic treatment as you can get, so it might be one to invest in if you’re also a fan of their facials. It uses EMS (electrical muscle stimulation), and you can really feel it working. It’s much more intense than traditional microcurrent, and you’ll notice parts of your face twitching involuntarily as you move it across your skin. It can take a couple of uses to get comfortable with the sensation, but the payoff is worth it. For defined cheekbones, a tighter jawline and visible sculpting, it delivers.
