A shop owner has become the latest victim of a gold chain snatching incident in All Saints Village.
CCTV footage circulating online shows a young man ripping the chain from around the woman’s neck while she was serving him at the counter. The victim who was caught off-guard, reached for a cutlass to defend herself, but the suspect had already fled.
A still image from the footage is now being widely shared as members of the public try to identify the man.
The incident is the latest in a series of brazen chain-snatching robberies in recent weeks.
On May 29th, two separate daylight robberies were reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). In the first, a woman walking along Campbell Road in Ottos had two gold wristbands worth approximately $4,000 snatched from her wrists around one o’clock in the afternoon.
Just two hours later, a man in Sutherlands had a 14-karat gold chain valued at around $5,000 ripped from his neck as he walked toward his vehicle.
Both investigations remain active.
Police continue to urge the public to avoid displaying expensive jewelry in public and are calling on jewelry stores, pawn shops, and gold dealers to watch for and report any suspicious transactions.
Anyone with information on any of these matters is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 462-3913 or 462-3914, the Crime Stoppers anonymous hotline at 800-TIPS (8477) or dial 911.
