Eight sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹1.25 lakh in cash were stolen from a house at Chinniyampalayam here on Sunday (June 21, 2026).
The police identified the house owners as Viswanathan and Rajeswari of Bharathi Nagar. Rajeswari runs a tailoring shop at Ganapathipalayam.
According to the police, the couple had gone to a temple and stayed at a relative’s house. When they returned home on Sunday night, they found the front door was broken. A check revealed that eight sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹1.25 lakh in cash kept in a bureau were missing. The Modakkurichi police visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. Fingerprint experts collected clues from the house. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
