Prince William Reportedly ‘Sought Assurances’ That Meghan Markle Would Not Wear Princess Diana’s Jewelry During Her Wedding Ceremony
There are so many stories, lore, and even controversy that surround the precious gems and jewelry pieces possessed by the royal family. Despite it all, they continue to pass it around and down to younger generations. However, that doesn’t mean it can strike a nerve from time to time.
A story is recirculating from royal expert and author, Robert Jobson’s, 2024 biography on Kate Middleton, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen, related to Princess Diana’s jewelry, and how her eldest son was very particular about who got to wear it. The author claims that, based on information from royal sources, the future king was very worried about ensuring that the As Ever founder would not wear his late mother’s jewelry during her and Prince Harry’s wedding. This likely came as a result of the growing tension from early on in the pair’s future brother and sister-in-law relationship.
“I have been told that, still concerned about the [romantic] match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it,” wrote Jobson, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The Royal Family Reportedly Threw ‘Jabs’ At Each Other During Harry & Meghan’s Wedding
From the start, the engagement between the Netflix stars stirred up a lot of controversy and negative attention both inside and outside of the royal family, as is known from bombshell interviews and statements on both sides.
It seemed that the Prince of Wales got what he wanted on Harry and Meghan’s wedding day, though he also likely had to compromise. It is reported that the Suits alum requested to wear the Spencer Tiara, once worn by Diana, during her ceremony, but went with Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara. However, in addition to her engagement ring, which featured two round diamonds from Princess Diana‘s jewelry collection, she wore a famous aquamarine ring once worn by the late princess for her reception.
That doesn’t mean all was fine and dandy between members of the royal family during the successful and visually stunning 2018 wedding. According to Jobson, there were still “sharp digs and thin skins on both sides.”
“In public, the royal family was all smiles, though privately they were at daggers drawn,” he added.
