‘Deplorable’ thug slashed motorist through open car window in Lanarkshire road rage incident

Shaun Wilson, 36, ran a blade down the other driver’s face after the pair got stuck facing each other on a narrow road.

A road rage motorist who attacked another Lanarkshire driver with a blade through his open window has been jailed.

Shaun Wilson saw red after he was forced onto the pavement to pass parked cars on a narrow road in Stanmore Avenue, Lanark, on March 1 this year, reports Lanarkshire Live.

Prosecutor Jack Lindsay told Airdrie Sheriff Court that the victim was driving shortly after 4pm and his partner and another female were also in the car.

Cars were parked on the street, making it too narrow for vehicles to pass each other, and the victim delayed until he thought the road was clear.

Mr Lindsay said: “He moved out to proceed but, as he did so, Wilson drove towards him in the opposite direction.

“[The victim] stopped and reversed out of the way and Wilson mounted the kerb and drove past, sounding his horn.

“[The victim] stopped again because of more oncoming traffic.

“Wilson got out of his car and approached [the victim] who lowered his window. Wilson shouted ‘You f*****g daftie’ then reached in with his right hand which held a small bladed object.

“He pressed the blade to the left side of [the victim’s] face and attempted to drag it down his face.

“This caused a small laceration to the top of his neck, just below the ear.

“[The victim] grabbed his arm but Wilson pulled clear and walked away from the vehicle.

“Police were able to trace him through CCTV.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston said Wilson had a “deplorable” criminal record, culminating in a prison sentence of four years and three months at the High Court.

Defence solicitor Alanah Campbell said her client had kept out of trouble for some time before this latest incident and had been “trying to turn his life around”.

She described his actions that day as “spontaneous”.

Sheriff Livingston told Wilson: “You’re quite fortunate not to be facing a murder charge as taking a knife down someone’s throat can have a fatal outcome.”

Wilson was jailed for 28 months.
