Jaguar has finally confirmed the name of its upcoming electric vehicle after months of speculation following its controversial rebrand.
The iconic British brand has confirmed that its new luxury four-door electric GT will be called the Jaguar Type 01.
Explaining the intention behind the name, Jaguar explained that the “Type” refers to its legendary predecessors that have elevated the brand into a fan favourite for millions.
The “0” represents the car’s zero tailpipe emissions, and the “1” denotes how the electric vehicle is the first of a new generation.
The “Type” moniker first appeared on Jaguar’s Le Mans race-winning C-type in 1951 and has been a staple of the brand since then.
Popular E-type and F-type models in recent years have embodied power, refinement and composure, Jaguar stated.
While it has not revealed any details about the design of the vehicle, prototype models of the Type 01 will appear at the Monaco E-Prix this upcoming weekend.
It will feature a distinctive camouflage wrap and be sure to turn the heads of attendees to get the first glimpse of the highly anticipated Type 01.

Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, said: “We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before.
“Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance.
“The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!'”
Jaguar has not yet disclosed a price for the Type 01, although it is expected to benefit from impressive technology and a battery range of around 400 miles.
Jaguar debuted the Type 00 concept following its high-profile ‘Copy Nothing’ rebrand

JAGUARJaguar’s stunning rebrand was first unveiled in 2024, and included a new “Copy Nothing” brand campaign, striking advertisements and the controversial decision to axe its iconic growler logo.
The rebrand divided opinions, with many arguing that Jaguar was setting itself apart from the rest of the industry with a unique product offering.
However, others bashed the brand, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who questioned whether Jaguar still sold cars after no vehicles were featured in the first adverts, while Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and US President Donald Trump branded it “woke”.
Jaguar eventually unveiled the Type 00 concept car, which has since been seen in London, at Paris Fashion Week and at the Future of Jaguar event in Miami, Florida.
