Mumbai Auto & Taxi Fare To Increase From Next Week

As per a report by the Hindustan Times, the state government approved the hike on Thursday following a rise in fuel prices and other operating costs. Under the revised fares, the minimum taxi fare will increase by ₹2, from ₹31 to ₹33, while the auto rickshaw fare will rise by ₹1, from ₹26 to ₹27. The new fares will come into effect next week after the government issues the official notification.

The fare hike was approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA), headed by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Sethi, following demands from taxi and autorickshaw unions.

As per the Khatua Committee formula, the per-kilometre taxi fare will increase from ₹20.66 to ₹21.90, while the autorickshaw fare will rise from ₹17.14 to ₹18.22. The revised rates are based on factors including fuel prices, vehicle costs, the Consumer Price Index, loan interest rates and government taxes.

Auto Fare Increase Due To CNG Price Hike

According to a state transport department official, CNG prices have increased by ₹8, or 10.25%, since the previous fare hike in February 2025. The Mumbai Taximen’s Union had sought a larger increase, proposing a taxi fare of ₹25 per km.

The previous fare revision came into effect on February 1, 2025, when taxi and autorickshaw fares were increased by ₹3 each. Taxi fares went up from ₹28 to ₹31, while autorickshaw fares rose from ₹23 to ₹26.
