Dogs can enjoy a “ruff” ride on Blackpool‘s buses and trams and it won’t cost their owners a penny.

Now, pups will travel for free on all trams and buses in the resort.

Jamie Swift, head of commercial at operators Blackpool Transport said mutt’s using public transport in the town has a long tradition.

He said: “The Rover ticket has been a long tradition here in Blackpool and dates back to well before dogs were allowed on many other networks in the UK.

“However, after listening to feedback from customers, we believe that charging for pampered pooches may actually put some people off using our services.

“As we want our trams and buses to provide the ‘paw-fect’ way to travel for everyone, this nominal fee has found itself in the dog house and been consigned to history.”

However, dogs travelling by bus or tram are expected to be on their best behaviour and that means no pee-ing or poo-ing.

Owners must also keep their pets under control at all times and must, themselves, have a valid ticket.
