GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Some fish were killed when tank equipment caught fire at a Green Bay pet store.
Around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to the PetSmart located at 2280 E. Mason Street for reports of gray smoke and an electrical odor coming from the building. When crews arrived, they saw light-to-moderate smoke throughout the building. Fire alarms and fire protection sprinkler systems were activated.
It was quickly determined the origin of the fire was within the fish tank equipment. After extinguishing the fire, many pets were removed from the store and taken to other PetSmart locations throughout the Fox Valley.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department said “a small number” of fish did not survive, but many more fish and small pets in the store were saved, thanks to early detection and activation of the 911 and sprinkler systems.
