Helicopter and dogs deployed after suspicious discovery

Two people were arrested

A police helicopter and dog unit were deployed in a search for suspects after an unsuccessful attempt to steal a cash machine from a service station in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was reported that three suspects in a white BMW arrived at the scene in Marldon in the early hours of Saturday (May 23) before leaving empty-handed.

Then, in the early hours of Sunday (May 24), four suspects were disturbed trying to force entry to the Yorkshire Building Society in Dartmouth. They then fled the scene.

On Monday (May 25), police said a suspect vehicle was located in Brixham.

A spokesperson for the force said: “One occupant fled the scene but was apprehended and arrested with the assistance of NPAS and a dog unit.

“The man in his 30s and from Bristol was arrested on suspicion of five attempted burglaries and an attempted theft. He has been released on police bail.

“The driver of the vehicle – a man in his 30s from Gloucester – was arrested on suspicion of six attempted thefts and has also been released on police bail. Enquiries into all matters are ongoing.”
