Ellen J. Hart, DVM, vice president of regulatory and international affairs, Animal Health Institute
Earlier this year, the Animal Health Institute (AHI) appointed Ellen J. Hart, DVM, as vice president of regulatory and international affairs, where she’s leading the organization’s regulatory reform efforts, coordinating work on the upcoming Animal Drug User Fee Act (ADUFA) reauthorization, and guide engagement with international standard-setting bodies. Hart joined AHI from the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), where she served as director of international programs and outreach.3
During her tenure at CVM, Hart represented US interests in global bodies including the World Organization for Animal Health and played a key role in implementing the first use of the Emergency Use Authorization pathway for animal drugs. Earlier in her career, she practiced as a mixed-animal veterinarian in California and led veterinary response efforts during a major wildfire evacuation.
“ADUFA has been a cornerstone of progress in animal health, helping bring forward the medicines and technologies that veterinarians and producers rely on every day,” Hart said in an organization announcement.3 “My goal is to help ensure that the regulatory system remains science-based, predictable, and responsive — so that innovators can continue developing solutions that protect animal health, support farmers, and serve families across the country.”
