They’ve survived mass extinctions, adapted to extreme environments and mastered life on both land and water. Now, amphibians are taking centre stage at Queensland Museum’s next adults-only Science Night.
On Friday August 21, evolutionary biologist and amphibian enthusiast Dr Ian Brennan will lead guests on a journey through the strange and surprising world of frogs, toads and other amphibious creatures. From tiny backyard hoppers to species found in some of the world’s harshest terrain, the evening will explore how amphibians have become one of nature’s great success stories.
Drawing on millions of years of evolutionary history, Dr Brennan will unpack the science behind amphibians and the extraordinary ways they have adapted to changing environments over time. Guests can expect insights into the connections between landscapes, climate and biodiversity, as well as a deeper understanding of why the species remains so important to ecosystems around the globe.
The event also includes rare after-hours access to SparkLab, Queensland Museum’s hands-on STEM experience. With more than 40 interactive exhibits spread across three zones, visitors can test, tinker and experiment long after the museum doors have closed to the public.
