Residents, pets escape destructive house fire in Porter Creek

A house in the Porter Creek area of Whitehorse has been left gutted after a fire ripped through the residence on June 3.

Firefighters on scene confirmed all of the occupants of the home, including several pets, evacuated safely and no injuries have been reported at this time.

Firefighters received the call shortly before noon, with dispatchers relaying reports of flames at a home on the corner of 12th Ave and 1st Street. Two fire engines, along with and emergency crews where swiftly dispatched, arriving on scene within minutes. The blaze was quickly knocked down and most of the fire was extinguished within roughly 15 minutes of the initial call.

Crews will remain on scene knocking down hot spots until the fire is deemed fully extinguished before fire investigators can begin to determine a cause. At this time, no suspected cause has been reported.
