West Bridgford business launches service to preserve dogs’ genetics for the future

by R.Donald

When West Bridgford resident Charlie Scott began considering neutering his beloved Cocker Spaniel, Ronnie, something stopped him.

“I felt genuinely sad that it would end his legacy,” he says. “Ronnie is such a loved part of our family. The idea of preserving his genetics for the future wouldn’t leave me alone — and the more dog owners I spoke to, the more I realised I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.”

That conversation became Canine Bloodline, a new specialist canine semen collection, analysis, and cryopreservation service opening this summer on Melton Road in West Bridgford. The business gives owners of healthy, un-neutered male dogs the option to safely preserve their pet’s genetics before the window to do so closes permanently.

For many families, the moment they choose to use those preserved genetics is deeply personal. Some introduce a puppy while their dog is still with them — bringing new energy into his life, with the added joy of watching him pass on the very traits they fell in love with.

Others wait until they’re ready for a new companion after their dog has passed away, finding comfort in welcoming his offspring into their home. And some think further still — preserving the possibility that, when their children are grown and ready for a dog of their own, that dog can be a direct descendant of the family pet they grew up with. Three very different moments. One decision, made today.

The service is built on serious expertise. A veterinarian and embryologist sit on the advisory board, overseeing all processes and procedures, and an experienced breeder leads operations — giving the business a foundation of clinical rigour and real-world breeding knowledge.

The process itself is straightforward and non-invasive: an initial health and suitability assessment (including DNA testing for genetic diseases), followed by a collection appointment with full semen analysis and secure long-term cryopreservation. Prices start from £449, with ongoing storage at just £10 per month.
