This 2008 Eclipse 500 Is a Pioneering Very Light Jet and an ‘AircraftForSale’ Top Pick

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2008 Eclipse 500.

The Eclipse 500 twin-engine jet came to market during an exciting time in general aviation. There were several small jet aircraft in development and many pilots were intrigued by the possibility of owning a true personal jet aircraft.

The coming generation of airplanes were labeled as VLJs, or very light jets, to set them apart from other small jets that previously had been the lightest available.

The Eclipse offered a familiar six-place cabin in an aircraft that could fly much faster than piston singles and light twins with similar seating capacities. This machine seemed like an ideal mount for making long family trips in far less time than is possible in piston aircraft.

This 2008 Eclipse 500 has 1,085 hours on the airframe and on each of its Pratt & Whitney PW610F-A engines. The aircraft is enrolled in the BEI Gold maintenance plan.

The IFR panel features the Integrated Flight Management System (IFMS) v2.08 by IS&S with two PFDs, one 15-inch MFD, color weather radar with XM satellite downlink, geo-referenced Jeppesen approach plates, fully coupled autopilot, Skywatch HP traffic alert system, Class B terrain awareness and warning system, DME, and Iridium satellite telephone.

Pilots looking for a very light personal jet with impressive performance and multiengine redundancy should consider this 2008 Eclipse 500, which is available for $1.365 million on AircraftForSale.
